Health Policy, Quality & Informatics Program

Message from Our Chief – Health Policy, Quality & Informatics Program

Welcome to the Health Policy, Quality & Informatics Program. We are a diverse group of researchers who conduct high impact multidisciplinary research to improve quality and safety of health care. Our work has helped reform clinical practice, redesign care processes, inform policy development and improved the use of health information technology. Our program investigators curently include primary care physicians/general internists, informaticians, a cardiologist, an industrial/organization psychologist, a psychologist, a sociologist and a surgeon. We pride ourselves on a high degree of collaboration locally, nationally and internationally. Specific topics of study include measurement of health care quality, diagnostic errors, safety and provider performance, use of electronic health records, financial incentives in health care (pay-for-performance), quality of chronic disease care in complex patients, medical errors, and patient safety related to electronic health record use among many other exciting topics related to quality and policy. We use a wide variety of qualitative methods and are supported by excellent team of statisticans, programmers and research staff.

Several of our publications have made a significant impact on policies, guidelines and health care system change. Through close mentoring and other career development and educational activities, we also train the next generation of researchers to carry out our mission. I encourage you to browse the profiles of our program members to learn more about us.
