Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Services Research
Thank you for your interest in our post-doctoral fellowship program. IQuESt has a national reputation for excellence in Health Services Research. The Veterans Affairs, Office of Academic Affiliations-funded M.D. and Ph.D. fellowship programs target the continuum of health care, including clinical practice and outcomes of care, patient experience, and the development of health care policy.
Our fellowship program recruits individuals who want to pursue interdisciplinary team-based research and academic careers. Each incoming fellow is provided with a wide variety of research and training opportunities that are tailored to her/his needs. Fellowships that are offered here:
- Big Data-Scientist Training Enhancement Program (BD-STEP)
- Gastroenterology T32 Research Training Grant
- Health Professions Education Evaluation and Research (HPEER)
- Health Services Research (HSR)
- Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC)/Psychology
Our goal is to provide our fellows with effective scientific and career development training as a foundation for a successful academic career in Health Services Research. We accomplish this by immersing fellows in a milieu in which scientists with a broad variety of interests and backgrounds come together to share ideas and provide one-on-one mentoring of junior physician-scientists. At the core of the fellowship program, there is an individualized structured career development program and integration of each fellow into his primary mentor's research group, the community of fellows and IQuESt at large.
We have a long, successful history in launching the scientific careers of our graduates. Many of our faculty are alumni of our fellowship program and are recipients of Career Development awards. Others have gone on to faculty positions in medical schools and other academic settings. Upon completing our fellowship, you will be competitive for faculty positions in a variety of settings, conducting health services research, designing and evaluating innovative health services programs, or serving in policy-making positions.
Our program is as diverse as there are many applicants who come to interview at the Houston VA Health Services Research Fellowship Program. We encourage you to explore our website and learn about the many opportunities that our fellowship program offers. We am happy to answer any questions that you may have, and look forward to meeting you.
